There’s two reasons why I love the Fuji X system:
- The images look fantastic straight out of the camera!
- The lenses are fantastic!
I already own the 16–55mm f/2.8 lens and it’s nothing short of fantastic. I reviewed it on my old blog (part 1 and part 2), so I won’t go into any detail here. I mention this, because I was concerned that the 16mm f/1.4 would duplicate what the 16–55mm f/2.8 already does. Needless to say, this is not the case.
With this new prime, there’s hardly ever a need to get the aperture smaller than f/2.8. In fact, the bulk of yesterdays images were all shot at f/1.4. The bokeh and three dimensional feel (I sound like a Zeiss fanboy blathering about micro-contrast — see DPReview.com forums for all of that nonsense) from this lens are — well see for yourself…
I’ve posted a few samples below. All of theses images are straight out of the camera. A cheap Tiffen circular polarizer was used for the beach shots to serve as protection against the sand, and it was an absolutely essential tool in keeping the sky as dark and saturated as possible.
